That's because you're supposed to use your hands. [He'll move back into his own lunge, it's second nature to him. He then bends over, reaching out to touch the ground with his hands] Bend down and get into a crouch like this without moving your footing just yet.

All right... [Naoto watches him do it, and then tries to imitate it. Her form is more awkward, naturally, and she bends her leg like she's actually doing a lunge, bending forward so that her fingertips are the only ones on the ground.] I still... don't really feel like I have much leverage here.

You'll get it, don't worry. Now this is the tricky part. You need to kick your feet over your head to do the cartwheel, keeping them far apart like a pinwheel effect, and then land back in a lunge position.

[He'll demonstrate just that. ]

And that's a cartwheel!

Hm... that doesn't seem too hard.

[She says, taking a breath, and then tries to imitate it.

She winds up kind of doing a sort of mule kick, not nearly getting her weight under her in time, or perhaps not kicking off strong enough. Either way, her feet don't get anywhere near above her.

And she falls on her belly to the ground] --oof!

...that was tempting fate, wasn't it.

[Oh welp. That was...sure an attempt. He bites back his lip to keep from laughing]

A little. But it takes practise.

Also it helps to do all the steps all together fluidly, to get momentum.

[She dusts herself off as she climbs to her feet. The most damaged thing is her pride.] Yes, I can imagine that...

...I think that might be my one try for the time being, though.

Oy, c'mon Naoto. You can't just try once and then give up!

[truedetective]

[Dammit. She hates looking like a fool.] I... I suppose not, no. That was a rather total failure on my end, though. What did I do wrong, other than, ah, all of it?

Well...for starters, you're too stiff. Like you're anticipating it going wrong, which tenses up your muscles and make them harder to move.

[truedetective]

...I see. [Naoto says, tapping her lips with her forearm.] That seems like something I'll just have to get over. There's no easy shortcut for that.

[redarm]

[He nods]

Yeah. Just try to relax. We're on grass, so you won't get hurt. Most you'll do is fall a little.

[truedetective]

[She takes a breath, and then tries to settle back into the pose he'd taught her.] As I said, nothing to really injure but my pride.

[She kicks up and off again and--

Good thing his afternoon's clear. This is going to take awhile.]
